About Ganna
Hey, I'm Sander. A bon vivant with all my senses. Crazy about cycling? That’s an understatement – I’m obsessed. If, as a toddler, I could have chosen between learning to walk or learning to ride – I’d have picked the latter.
After studying public administration, 15+ years in consultancy and a burnout, I realised life isn’t about an expensive lease car, a big job and a corner office. Life is about making a difference. With people, for people. Did I turn my hobby into my job? Absolutely. Cycling saved me – and I’m convinced it can do the same for many others.

The name
The name Ganna comes from Luigi Ganna – the very first winner of the Giro d’Italia. Luigi was handy, a hard worker and incredibly determined. But above all, someone who tirelessly chased his dreams. From a working-class family and a bricklayer by trade, he chose to follow his own path – despite his parents wanting him to stay in farming. He decided to follow his own course – which led him to victory in the very first Giro d’Italia. How beautiful is that.
Reaching goals, but in your own way. Because Luigi Ganna didn’t win the Giro by being the fastest, but by understanding the (points) system best. He could push hard on the pedals, but to win you need a strategy.
And that’s exactly where Luigi Ganna and I are alike.
For DMOs and public authorities
I understand what public bodies need to make real progress. No showcase dinner with the mayor to put Cesenatico on the map – but a concrete, results-driven plan for really getting people on their bikes there.
I feel a huge responsibility to spend public money the right way, and I’m certain I can achieve more with the same (marketing) budget.
Always one gear higher
If you know me a little, you know I’m bursting with energy – and I use it every day to turn people into cycling fans.
Until you’re 40 your body takes care of you; after 40 you have to take care of your body. On LinkedIn I write ‘stories from the saddle’, about how I ignored my health for years – and what that led to.
No sunshine and rainbows, but raw, honest stories with one mission: to make others see that looking after your body is a top priority.

Speaks 6 languages: Dutch, English, German, Italian, Spanish and French
Likes helping little old ladies across the road
Talks a lot and laughs hard. Drinks more coffee than Douwe Egberts.
Has an allergy to ‘that’s how we always do it’ instead of ‘what works?’
Is highly sensitive: all senses are always on high alert. Intense as a father of two young children – amazing when I’m on top of a mountain with my road bike.
Likes a pastel de nata with his coffee on rides
My best holiday ever was my press trip to Bolzano. The time in the Dolomites, the first time cycling in Italy – finally speaking the language. Everything came together: it felt like coming home. The best holiday is almost impossible to explain; you have to feel it.
